CALL TO ACTION!

NEW STEALTH TAX!

Joint County Council & School Board Meeting
Tuesday, Sept. 30th 5pm

Beaufort County School District Office,
2900 Mink Point Blvd, Beaufort, SC 29902

TALKING POINTS

Welcome to Beaufort TEA Party, SC Society

  1. Why was there never a public hearing or input invited, before getting to this point?
  2. This is a "STEALTH TAX", no Referendum, No Vote!
USC Bluffton wants to divert Beaufort School District
  3. Millage Taxes from District Facilities to the State Campus.
  4. The tax will be between $68.1 Million to $80 Million of your county tax dollars over 30 years
  5. This will be done by a "Multiple County Industrial Park" (MCIP) agreement between Jasper and Beaufort County.
  6. This is a State University Campus, NOT an Industrial Park!
It will adversely affect the US 278 Corridor.
  7. The proposal was touted as enabling high school graduations at the arena.  None of the 6 High School Principles want this, as it would adversely effect the administration and logistics of graduations.  Over the last 7 years, out of 61 graduations, only on was held inside due to bad weather.
  8. The BCSB resoundingly votes NO!  It will directly impact 3000 employees, and 36,000 students who travel by bus or auto on roads and bridges in need of repair.
  9. Any economic impact would center with overwhelming majority, to the South.  It would have negative impact North of the Broad, by causing longer commute times, loss of revenue and diversion of tax dollars to the south.
  10. Searches of the internet, including USCB and county sites, finds a lack of information, such as:

  • Who is the actual applicant?  Is it USCB or are other entities involved?
  • Was there an Engineering Survey?  If so, by whom?
  • Who is the Landscape Architect?  Are there complete renderings?
  • Who is the traffic consultant?  What are their finding?  Did the consult with SCDOT and a review of US 278?
  • Was there a Land Survey, if so, who, where, when and results?
  • What about a Wetlands Consultant?  If so, what are their finding?
